About Skarb
What Skarb is
Skarb is a budget and expense tracker for iPhone, iPad and Apple Silicon Mac. You keep your money in workspaces: "Family", "Personal", "Trip to Italy". Each one has its own budgets, categories, transactions, balances and savings goals.
You add an expense by photographing the receipt, typing one line like "coffee 3.20 yesterday", or saying it out loud. You share a workspace with the people you share money with, and you can see who changed what. It is free, with no paid tier of any kind.
See what it doesWhere the name came from
Skarb is the Ukrainian word скарб. It means treasure. Not treasure as in a hoard of gold, treasure as in the thing you keep because it matters. The app is built in Ukrainian and English, and it was named in one of them.
Who built it
Skarb is made by one person, an individual developer in Ukraine. I design it, build it and pay what it costs to run. When something breaks, I am the one who fixes it.
If you write to support@skarb-budget.com, a person reads it. Usually within a day, sometimes two.
Why it is free
Skarb is free. There is no paid tier, no ads, no tips, no donations, and your data is not sold or shared with advertisers. That is the whole answer, and it does not change later.
The honest version of how that works: it is a personal project, and its running costs are absorbed by the person who built it. A budgeting app for a few thousand people is not expensive to run. Storage and the cloud database are the bulk of it, and both are small at this size.
There is one real limit. Each person gets 500 MB for transaction attachments: receipt photos, scans and PDFs. The app has a Storage screen showing what you have used, for example 312 MB of 500 MB, and lets you clear what you no longer need. It is a storage allowance, not something to buy your way out of.
Why Skarb is free, and what that means for you
What it does not do
- No bank connections. You enter transactions yourself, or scan them. There is no plan to add account aggregation.
- No Android and no web app. It is a native Apple app and it stays one.
- No investing, tax or invoicing. It tracks money in and out. It is not an accounting package.
- No advice. The app shows you your numbers. It does not tell you what to do with them.
Every one of those is a decision, not a gap waiting to be filled. Saying so here is cheaper for both of us than you finding out in week two.
Getting in touch
Write to support@skarb-budget.com. Bug reports, feature requests and "this wording is wrong" are all welcome at the same address.
Your data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore, sign-in runs on Firebase Auth, attachments sit in Cloud Storage, and a receipt photo or a typed or spoken sentence is sent to OpenAI to produce the draft. The privacy page says exactly what goes where.
